I have been on a lot of cruise vacations, and cruising is no rocket science! A long and relaxing vacation abroad a luxury-ship stopping over several well-known tourist locations is a treat you should experience at least once in your life. However, there are a few things I wish I knew on my first trip. Then I’m sure things would surely have been a lot less clumsy.
Here are a certain tips you should keep in mind in order to make the best of your first time at sea and avoid looking like a first-timer.
#1. Know your Ship
If you are a first-timer, you are sure to have problems in locating the different places located inside a cruise ship. Therefore, it is advisable that you read every possible information about the ship available on the Internet. You can also Google (‘the name of the ship’ + the deck plans) to know where places like spa, theater, gym and restaurants are situated.
#2. Skip the Buffet on the First Day
It’s advisable that you stay away from the buffet on the first day of the cruise vacation. The first day is the time when almost every passenger is as hungry as a raven after waiting long hours for the ship at the port. Instead, it is better if you head straight towards the dining room to have the meal.
#3. Plan your Port Activities
As you pick which cruise to board, you’ll also be able to know the places where it will make stops. Now this will be real irresponsible if you have made plans only about the things to do when on the ship, and completely ignored researching about the stopovers which you’ll get the chance to explore. Even if you have just a few hours at a stopover, plan properly to make the most out of it.
#4. Carry Wristbands for Seasickness
If this is your first time on a cruise ship, you cannot be sure whether you will get seasick or not. Therefore, carry medicines which will cure you of the motion sickness. Even better, buy specially-designed wristbands which avoids being motion-sick by applying acupuncture to your wrists.
#5. Bring an Umbrella
There is no guarantee that you will experience a perfect weather during the stopovers. Depending on the places you choose to visit, there might be showers, hail or even snow. To be on the safe side, bring an umbrella with you to stay warm and dry.
Once you have taken these points into consideration, I promise that you’ll have an amazing time during your first cruise vacation.
